Wish Tree

We have been thinking about other people who are not as fortunate as us. We made a Christmas Wish tree to show our thinking.

Here are some of our wishes....

"I wish that everyone could be happy at Christmas time"

"I wish that war would end and that the world could be peaceful"

"I wish that people would raise money for the poor so they could have a fun Christmas too"

"I wish that everybody could see more of their family at Christmas"

"I wish that everyone would be treated fairly"

Here is Yasmin putting her wish on our tree.  It was her last day at Sumner today  - Goodbye Yasmin!  We will miss you in our class :)

Grassmen in Room 10

In Room 10 we have been making grassmen. We made them with potting mix, grass seed and pantihose. Today, we put them outside in the pouring rain to help them grow!  We hope the sun shines over the weekend so they grow.

Soiree

On Tuesday night the Year 3 and 4 students performed a soiree. A soiree is a french word which means a mix of music, art and dance. These are some of the arts that we performed; drama, recorder, dance, ukulele, visual art, poi and singing.  There were lots of parents, children and grandparents that came to watch us. At the end we all felt proud of ourselves!

Ice. Ice, Baby

Today we investigated the changes in state that happens when ice melts.
We each got an ice "baby" to look after. We predicted what would happen depending on where we chose to put our baby. Some of us chose to put the ice baby in the shade, some in the sun and Dylan put his in the cupboard!
We observed the change of state (solid to liquid) then we explained what happened and why.

Sumner School Spectacular Swimming

Over the past few weeks, Room 10 has been having exciting swimming lessons at Pioneer Pool. Every morning at 10:15 we caught a bus to the pool with Room 9. Sometimes we played "silent bus" and we were the champions!
On Tuesday we got to wear our pyjama's in the water and we did some water safety activites. Some of us went into the deep pool and we practised how to get in and out of the dinghy. We wore lifejackets and we huddled together for safety. In the little pool we made a wirl pool and lay on our backs and floated.
We had an awesome time at swimming!

Scientists at Work.....

Yesterday, we had an afternoon of Science fun with a teacher from Science Alive. We used our prediction and observation skills to solve a mystery about which white powder was left at the crime scene.  We added water, iodine and acid to different white powders.
At the end, the teacher made a rocket out of acid and water -  it flew across the room! Lucky we were wearing our safety glasses !

Look at us working hard to solve the mystery!

Room 10’s Lunch-Munch-Crunch Rhyme

We had sooo much fun writing this poem today :)

 Room 10’s Lunch-Munch-Crunch Rhyme

Can you tell me, if you please,
Who likes mouldy cheese?
Hannah and Jamie like mouldy cheese!

How about Fred?
Fred likes bread.

How about Bo?
Bo likes dough.

 How about Sam?
Sam likes jam on ham!

 How about Blake?
Blake likes steak and cake!

 How about Bryn?
Bryn likes eating from the biscuit tin!

 How about Ava?
Ava likes flavour!

Ok then, tell me if you can,
Others in Room 10 what do you like?

Setting Descriptions

Here is Bryns fantastic setting description. Can you guess where he is describing? This place is really tropical with the glistening water and the dazzling bright sun. At night there is no birds tweeting just crickets chirping on palm trees as the super warm water appears on the gritty golden sandy beach and washes away with a load of bright green and dark brown seaweed. The island is really busy as people bustle around in the middle of the day in Avarua [the islands central town]. But it is especially busy when the hot gleaming sun rains down its delightful beams.

Journal Writing Star

Our best journal writer today was Dylan. We are working on making our journals more interesting by adding adjectives: Journey to Australia: day 2 On Friday morning, I woke up extra early. At first I had forgot where I was until I remembered I was in Australia. The first thing I did was quickly rush to my cousin Willis's and he showed me the awesome game Temple Run on his Mum's iphone. That day we drove to Sea World. We ran to the seal and dolphin shows, rode on a flume ride and saw tons of funky fish and sweet sharks! That night, we walked to someones house for a tasty dinner. A woman let me keep a blue angry bird. We saw Ice Age 2 and had brownies for dinner. Finally I fell asleep. Part 3 coming soon to a blog near you.
